State of Black America

Wow it’s just the beginning of the new 2008 year and already we are in a world wind! Economy is declining at a rapid pace: foreclosures on the rise, jobs are being eliminated and oil prices are drastically increasing. All eyes are on the historical United States Presidential race where we see the high possibility of either our first black president or first female president.

Black America in particular need to understand the importance of this! We are already a disenfranchised group that has a lot of social ills stacked against us: high poverty rates, increase violence in our communities and skyrocketing imprisonment rates. What are we going to do? Are we going to depend on the government or are we going to take individual responsibility for ourselves, families and community as a whole? I chose the latter. Yes, I believe the government has some moral obligation to help those in need, but there does come a time when individual responsibility must enter into the equation. We need to stop playing the victim role and understand the depths of our strength (as a community and individually). We can overcome these social ills that plague our community and families. We just have to “fish for ourselves” so to speak!

This is the premise for WhatDoSimoneThinks.blogspot.com. To speak up for us and to get opinions on the state of Black America and America in general. So rant, rave, give your opinion, facts whatever it is you need and want to do!!!! And Simone will definitely tell you what she thinks!
